Advisor – Awhi Tauira Student Support

Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi is a vibrant and exciting tertiary education institution which offers a range of programmes from certificates to doctorates across a range of disciplines.  Our programmes are delivered at three main sites in Whakatāne, Tāmaki Makaurau, and Whangārei, and at off-site locations including marae venues throughout the country.  Our delivery modes include classroom learning, noho marae, Wānanga, and online (eWānanga) during weekdays, in the evening, and on weekends.

We are looking for an Advisor to join our Awhi Tauira Student Support Team.  This role provides academic tertiary skills and support to students that will assist them complete their chosen programme of study and become independent learners.

You will support the needs of students enrolled in programmes delivered in the evenings and/or at the weekend at Whakatane and at other off-site venues including marae around the country.  Therefore, scheduled travel away from the Whakatane base from time to time is involved during term time.

Our successful applicant will have:

• A minimum of a masters’ qualification, with a graduate degree preferably in general or health science field.
• Previous experience in a student learning support/advisory type role of a similar nature
• Adult teaching experience and a teaching qualification, preferably adult teaching
• Experience working with online teaching and learning tools
• Experience supporting the pastoral care needs of students in the tertiary sector
• Te Reo Māori fluency.
• Knowledge of Tikanga Māori in an educational context
• A current unrestricted private motor vehicle licence.
