The information below pertains to the Ngāti Awa Scholarship being offered in 2024.

 

Note: This scholarship has now closed for 2024.
  • Available: Two scholarships per eligible programme are available for any student who is enrolled full-time at Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi
  • Value: Valued at full or partial tuition fees for each consecutive full-time year of the programme enrolled. This scholarship will be credited towards paying the tuition fees of the successful applicant’s programme of study for each consecutive full-time year of the programme enrolled.
  • Purpose of Award: The purpose of this award is to assist in enhancing tribal educational outcomes for Ngāti Awa.

Eligibility: Only current or intending students registered with Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Awa are eligible for consideration. 

Eligible Programmes of Study:

  • Diploma (Level 5)
    Bachelor Degree (Level 7)
    Postgraduate Certificate (Level 8)
    Postgraduate Diploma (Level 8)
    Masters Degree (Level 9)
    Doctoral Degree (Level 10)

Criteria: Recipients will be selected on the following criteria:

  • • Evidence of enrolment in a diploma or degree with Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi
    • Full and correct completion of application form and attached relevant supporting documentation
    • An explanation of how their programme will benefit Ngāti Awa, hapū and marae and the wider community.

Conditions: 

  • • Students must successfully complete all requirements for each year of programme enrolled.
    • If a student fails to successfully complete at least 90% of the programme from date of the full-time enrolment, they will not be eligible to continue in the scholarship programme.
    • Scholarship funds or any part of the funds granted, cannot be carried over or paid out in any following years.
    • When a student is enrolled full-time the thesis component of a Master’s or Doctoral degree programme one must provide a supporting letter from their supervisor for each year enrolled in the thesis.
    • Where a student is unable to complete their course for personal reasons or reasons beyond their control, they will receive credit for any courses that they have passed and be withdrawn from the scholarship programme.
    • The joint scholarship board will consider the applicant's contribution to Ngāti Awa, hapū and marae, academic and scholarly achievements, community contribution and potential research impact.

Supporting Documentation

Supporting Documentation must include:

  • • Enrolment Confirmation Letter
    • Factors other than academic merit which may include community involvement, sporting achievement etc. Please provide documentation supporting achievements in these areas, i.e. certificates, testimonials and anything else that may be of interest to the scholarship committee.

Submission of Scholarship Application: Application form and supporting documents must be submitted by 2pm, Friday 22nd March 2024.
