Puāwaitanga Counselling Service
- Puāwaitanga means to blossom, to flourish, to break through, and is a phone and web-based service to support all tauira at Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi to improve their hauora (emotional wellbeing), providing an alternative to traditional face-to-face counselling. Staffed by trained professionals, sessions are confidential and free.
Key features
- Accessibility: offering flexible session times between 9.00 am and 9.00 pm, with options for sessions outside these hours.
- Empathy: Counsellors are empathetic, culturally sensitive, and authentic, ensuring a supportive environment for clients.
- Personalised approach: Clients complete an enrolment questionnaire, choose a counsellor, and book an initial appointment through the Puāwaitanga patient portal. In the first session, they discuss goals and develop a plan together. Subsequent sessions focus on implementing strategies to achieve these goals and improve overall wellbeing.
- Note: Puāwaitanga is only able to provide sessions to tauira currently in New Zealand.
