Programme Admission Criteria for the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 2) are as follows:

  • Minimum age: 18 years
  • Minimum qualification: Open entry
  • Hold successful completion of an approved Pre-entry Foundation programme OR;
  • Special Admission may be granted by the NPC of the programme to applicants without a formal qualification, where an applicant is over the age of 20 years at the start of the programme and they can provide sufficient evidence of work experience, skill, education, commitment, and support to successfully undertake the programme of study.
  • Assurance appropriate vaccination requirements are met.
  • Te Reo and tikanga understandings would be helpful to applicants.

 

General Admission: 

An applicant who wishes to gain admission to study at Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi must be a domestic applicant, defined by the Education Act 1989 Section 159 as:

  • A New Zealand citizen; or
  • The holder of a residence class visa granted under the Immigration Act 2009; or
  • A person of a class or description of persons required by the Minister, by notice in the Gazette, to be treated as if they are not an international tauira.



All applicants must have a level of English sufficient to be able to study at this level.

If English is not the applicant’s first language, he/she may also be required to provide evidence of their English language skills as listed below.

  • IELTS 5.0 Academic/General (no lower than 5.0 in all subtests/ bands).
  • Note: IELTS scores used must be taken from a single IELTS Test Report Form and are valid for two years from the date of the test. Admission may be granted at the discretion of the Head of Health and Wellbeing if the level of English is assessed as satisfactory.

 

All applicants must be able to:

  • meet the entry requirements for the New Zealand Certificate of Health and Wellbeing (Level 2); AND
  • have a level of English sufficient to be able to study at level 2; AND
  • have access to a computer, and have sufficient digital literacy skills to participate in all learning activities and submit assessments using required technologies; AND
  • agree to participate in all wānanga; AND
  • pass the police check (including a Children’s Worker Safety Check; VCA)
