New Zealand’s first Virtual Careers Expo

Many tertiary education providers have been impacted by the cancellation and postponement of Career Expos in New Zealand as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In order to address this vacuum, Media Design School in conjunction with Torrens University Australia, is running a Virtual Careers Expo on 18 and 19 June 2020, the first of its kind in New Zealand.

Coming off the back of the success of Australia’s first Virtual Careers Expo run by Torrens University Australia in May which saw 73 of the nation’s tertiary institutions participate, along with 1,100 high schools and 14,000 prospective students, the New Zealand Virtual Careers Expo is poised for success.

The New Zealand Expo will enable students to explore future learning pathways via real time interactivity and engagement with tertiary education providers from all regions of New Zealand. The provision of this event will be critical to ensuring that young adults feel confident and supported, despite the uncertainty caused by COVID-19.

32 tertiary education providers are confirmed for this event including all eight New Zealand universities, plus a wide range of polytechnics, Wananga and private tertiary providers. The response has been overwhelming.

This initiative set up by Media Design School has been provided at no cost to the exhibiting education providers, participating high schools, or prospective students. Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi are pleased to be participating in the kaupapa and we encourage those looking for career and study options to register now!

We feel that this is the beginning of something bigger for New Zealand tertiary education. We look forward to continuing to build on this initiative and pushing the boundaries in New Zealand, across countries and systems to create a better world.
