Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi is a vibrant and exciting tertiary education institution that offers a range of programmes, from certificates to doctorates, across various disciplines. 

We are seeking a full-time Lecturer to deliver Year 2 of the degree Te Aho Pūtaiao (Bachelor of Environmental Studies).  The curriculum has been developed so that students participate in their natural environment and are able to use a balance of Māori and Western knowledge, rangahau, theory, and practice. 

The subjects covered in year 2 of the degree include:

TAI671 Whānau, Hapū, Iwi - Environments

TAI672 Whenua - Impacts

TAI673 Kaitiakitanga - Practices

TAI674 Ecology - Principles

TAI675 Rangahau - Collection and Analysis

TAI676 Wai - Components

TAI677 Climate Change - Societal and Scientific Impacts

TAI678 Environmental Sustainability & Technology - Solutions

The successful candidate(s) should have:

  • A minimum of a Master’s degree (or enrolled into a Master's Degree at the time of application) that is relevant to the fields of Mātauranga Māori, Mātauranga Taiao, and or Adult Teaching.
  • An adult teaching qualification.
  • Previous tertiary teaching experience (teaching degree-level papers).
  • Experience in the delivery of the prescribed course and programmes, specifically in the subject areas of Mātauranga Māori, Mātauranga Taiao, Communication, Rangahau, Kaitiakitanga, Climate Change, Ecology, Geography, Earth Sciences, Natural Sciences, Environmental Legislation, Environmental Planning, Leadership, Whānau, Hapū, and Iwi, Environmental Sustainability and Technology.
  • Relevant applied environmental work experience.
  • Proven research experience.

Knowledge of Tikanga Māori and its application in Mātauranga Māori and Mātauranga Taiao settings, and while fluency in Te Reo Māori is preferred, those applicants with at least an intermediate level of Te Reo Māori competency should apply.
