Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi is a vibrant and exciting tertiary education institution, which offers a range of programmes from certificates to doctorates, across a range of disciplines.  

 

We are seeking two full time Lecturers to teach our tailored in-house pilot 20-week basic Te Reo Māori language programme to be delivered at Waitakere, Northshore, Auckland, and Greenlane hospitals commencing in February 2022.   

 

The aim of the programme is to provide a basic level of Te Reo Māori by assisting staff/students to engage (or re-engage) with introductory skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing Te Reo Māori.  Language content is contextualised to health and the hospital setting and staff/students will be encouraged to use basic Te Reo Māori correctly with whanau, colleagues in the workplace, and others over time, increasing the use of Te Reo Māori in everyday activities.  The classes will be scheduled at regular set times each week. 

 

As a Lecturer your primary responsibility will be to plan and deliver quality lectures, to support learning through face to face and online mediums, and to monitor, mentor, and support students.  You will be part of a wider team of Te Reo Māori Lecturers based at our Tāmaki campus site in Manukau.  

 

For the right candidate(s) flexibility to work partially from home to prepare for lessons, mark, and complete other administration functions will be considered.  To do this, you will need to have good quality internet access a suitable working from home set-up and environment, and able to stay connected to your students, the wider team of Lecturers, manager, and our organisation online and via zoom hui.              

 

Our successful applicants will have:

  • A Te Reo Māori qualification, as a minimum a Diploma in Te Reo Māori, a Bachelors’ degree is preferred.
  • Te Reo Māori proficiency to at least level 6, and a comprehensive understanding of Tīkanga Māori as well as knowledge of local iwi dialect relevant to the region that the programme is delivered in.
  • A teaching qualification as a minimum, an adult teaching qualification preferred.
  • Tertiary teaching experience, and experience monitoring, assessing, and delivering Te Reo Māori papers and programmes to adults.
  • Experience using online delivery tools as the programme is mixed mode delivery.
  • A full clean driver’s licence.
