Lecturer - School of Indigenous Graduate Studies

Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi is a vibrant and exciting tertiary education institution, which offers a range of programmes from certificates to doctorates, across a range of disciplines.  

The Masters programme has expanded to provide graduates with a Bachelor of Māori Performing Arts with a pathway to higher learning.  Therefore, we are looking for an experienced full time tertiary teaching Lecturer to deliver the Post Graduate Diploma of Māori Performing Arts – Te Rautoki a Toi and additionally, who is also a specialist in the field of Māori Performing Arts.  You will have also performed, judged or lead a kapa at the very highest level.

Your primary responsibility will be to plan and implement quality teaching and learning experiences for students who have enrolled in the Māori Performing Arts masters papers.  This will include setting relevant, appropriate and timely assessments, and providing academic support and pastoral care, with a strong focus on student success and achievement.  You will also be required to develop and maintain relationships with kapa and their Kapa Kaiako. 

Applicants will have:

• Demonstrated excellence in Māori performing arts at all levels and to the very highest level.
• A Masters’ degree qualification (PhD preferred) relevant to the field of Matauranga Māori and an under-graduate qualification in the area of Māori Performing Arts. Those applicants who do not hold a completed PhD but can evidence commencement of study towards a PhD are also encouraged to apply for this role. 
• Tertiary teaching experience to Masters’ level.
• A teaching qualification, preferably adult teaching qualification.
• Experience in delivery of the prescribed course and programme, particularly in the discipline of Māori Performing Arts and at Masters level.
• Proven research experience.
• Strong kapa networks.
• Knowledge of tikanga Māori, and fluency in Te Reo Māori.
