Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi offers the highest standards of tertiary education from certificate to doctorate levels, including programmes for international scholars of indigenous studies. We require an Historian skilled in researching, analysing, interpreting, and documenting historical events, narratives, and cultural knowledge. The Historian will play a vital role in safeguarding whakapapa, waiata, whakataukī, and mātauranga Māori, ensuring these are accurately contextualised and accessible to future generations. Master’s in History, Māori Studies, or a related field (a PhD is desirable.)
The successful applicant will have:
- · Proven experience in historical research and publication.
- · Experience working with iwi, hapū, and marae-based projects.
- · Strong understanding of Māori cultural frameworks and whakapapa.
- · Familiarity with archival software and digital research tools.
- · Ability to teach and mentor in historical methodology.
