Te Umanga PapatahiTe Umanga Papatahi is a Level 5 one-year Certificate in Business Administration that introduces students to the principles and practices of business management. This nine paper programme deals with complex business concepts in a clear, simple and easy to understand language. The certificate has been designed from both Māori and Western best business practices and aims to educate students on the New Zealand business environment and its role globally. It is both an opportunity to improve financial literacy and your understanding of an enterprise, as well as explore business in the context of Māori business and aspirations. Te Umanga Papatahi is also suited to Māori involved in organisations such as marae, land trusts and service organisations who need to gain knowledge and experience in business and administration. Upskilling in these areas is a priority for many Māori Trusts, incorporations, committees and businesses.
The content is delivered in an exciting way through tutorials, guest lecturers, online learning, course texts and practical application. We also bring in key government agencies such as New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, Te Puni Kōkiri, IRD and IPONZ so that the students get first hand access to all services that are offered to Small Businesses and Trusts in New Zealand. Te Umanga Papatahi teaches the fundamentals of mainstream business coupled with Māori best practices and pedagogies.
Your Learning Experience
The programme is conducted on a modular basis which includes six weekend workshops (held Friday to Sunday), or weekly sessions coupled with six one-day wānanga. Between these sessions, students will work in study groups, completing activity modules, individual research, e-wānanga and working on their business plans.
