The main focus of this degree is the study and research of your own marae traditions, culture and knowledge. You must have a good understanding of Te Reo as the first year is delivered bi-lingually. A component of the degree is also delivered on line. The Bachelor of Mātauranga Māori focuses on Māori language, customs and knowledge te reo, tikanga me te Mātauranga.

Noho marae are held four weekends a year, normally during the school holidays, in the Mataatua rohe (Whakatāne students), and in Tamaki (Auckland students) through Awanuiārangi sites. You need your own computer and access to the internet. On completion of your quali¬ cation you will be able to pursue other study (for example a Masters course) or work in areas which require reo and Mātauranga or Māori knowledge generally. Whatever your pathway or journey you will have gained a theoretical and practical knowledge of reo and Mātauranga Māori.
