Programme Overview
Level of Study: 7
This programme provides NZ Teachers Council-accredited and approved study for
Principals and teachers who work with children in Māori medium or mainstream
schools, early child care or kohanga reo, and those with similar aspirations, to
improve their qualifications, and to undertake professional development in areas
in which they have daily responsibility. This programme leads to a qualification
that gives you the opportunity to be more equitably represented in tertiary
education, professional occupations and in decision-making positions in
education. While education is the focus of this programme, it is also an
opportunity for participants to review the development and direction of their
careers.

Intake Details |
Te
Tohu Paetahi Ako (Tapiri) is delivered in blocks during the year – January,
April, July and October in the school term breaks. The mixed mode of delivery
and multi-site delivery make this programme very accessible. |

Entry Details
| Entry is open to applicants who meet the following requirements: |
| Minimum Age: |
18
years old |
| Minimum Qualifications: |
Student entry is open to applicants who: Have completed a Level 7, New Zealand
Diploma in Teaching recognised by the New Zealand Teachers Council or Trained
Teacher’s Certificate (or New Zealand Qualifications Authority and NZ Teachers
Council recognised equivalent). |
| Additional Qualifications: |
Students wishing to enrol in the Bachelor of Education – Teaching (Tapiri): Must
provide evidence of their ability to successfully pursue and complete a Bachelor
degree; Be currently registered as a teacher in New Zealand; and Have been a
practising teacher or teacher educator in New Zealand for at least two of the
last five years. |

Special Entry Requirements: |
For
students who do not meet these criteria, but have special circumstances that
warrant further consideration, may be considered for admission through an
interview and assessment process at the discretion of the Head of School of
Undergraduate Studies. |

An
exploration of the philosophy of inclusion. The exploration of the provision of
education for learners with diverse needs from both Māori and Western
traditional and contemporary perspectives. The course aims to develop teacher
competencies that will cater for a variety of educational needs in inclusive
settings. From an inclusive perspective, course participants will examine
theories and practices related to identification, assessment and programme
planning for learners with diverse needs. |
