Certificate in Te Wai Māori - Freshwater Management (Level 4 & 5)

Programme Overview

They will be able to identify common freshwater insects, plants and fish species and will understand introductory biology of these species. They will be able to transfer freshwater fish and understand the reasons for doing so. Graduates will be prepared for enrolment on the Bachelor of Environment Studies or for the Certificate of Te Pouhono. Programme aims: To revitalise and promote freshwater customary fisheries knowledge on both rural and urban marae; To enable active kaitiakitanga of freshwater habitats and environments by individuals, whānau, hapū and iwi; To promote participation in the protocols and rituals of whānau, hapū and iwi in the areas of customary fisheries science, ecological knowledge and sustainability.
