– Focussed on research priorities and graduate programmes – Masters and Doctoral degrees.
The primary goal of the School of Indigenous Graduate Studies is to provide a quality graduate programme that incorporates quality learning/teaching experiences for students.
Graduate Studies and Research at Awanuiārangi comprises three degrees and a research programme, which coordinates research activity across all disciplines at the Wānanga for the PBRF. The three degree programmes are the Doctor of Philosophy and two Masterates.
The School of Indigenous Graduate Studies (SIGS) was launched in June 2008 with two Master’s and a PhD programmes. As the only Wānanga accredited to deliver PhDs, Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi has an important role to play ensuring kaupapa and Mātauranga Māori knowledge and world views are delivered to the highest level. With an expanding range of Masters and Doctoral qualifications, the School attracts scholars from a wide range of fields all seeking to lift their academic and research sights within a kaupapa Māori framework or by utilising Māori and indigenous perspectives and ways of knowing.
Our strong research oriented graduate programmes are supported by a growing number of PhD credentialed staff and Graduate Adjunct Faculty comprising Māori PhD holders around the country who are available for thesis supervision.
The School of Indigenous Graduate Studies caters for enrolments across Aotearoa and looks forward to receiving your enrolment application.
