Tokorau: Te Pou Tokohuruatea

Te Pou Tokohuruatea advocates Tokorau by ensuring all associated stakeholders have the capability to participate confidently in the initiatives and learning environments created at Awanuiārangi.

Te Pou Tokohuruatea is underpinned by mātauranga Māori (knowledge) and ahuatanga Māori (practices). With the aim of engaging learners Te Pou Tokohuruatea runs Tech Pā Studio, a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) based programme that gives young people aged between 10 and 25, unique opportunities to:

  • explore their technological interests
  • problem solve and engage using real-life experiences
  • understand and apply computational thinking practices

This distinctively crafted Māori approach to learning is achieved through the creative use of high-end technology that includes digital production, 3D gaming, visual design and robotics.

Tech Pā Studio has connections with High Tech Youth Network and runs as an after school programme, from 18 Francis Street in Whakatāne.
