PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

This programme is for learners who have a basic understanding and ability in the use of te reo Māori and have a desire to communicate with little support in familiar everday contexts, and in Māori environments where they feel comfortable.

Learners will study the following:

  • Basic Māori vocabulary and grammatical structures
  • Be able to express basic connections to the land, environment and people of the area
  • Apply technical knowledge of foundation level reo Māori and develop respect for te reo Māori

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Entry is open to applicants who meet the following requirements:

Minimum Age: 
16 years
Minimum Qualification/s: 
  • Applicants require 60 credits of Te Reo Maori at NQF Level 1, or demonstrated equivalent.
Additional Qualifications:
  1. Entry to this programme is Open Entry.
  2. Applicants will sit an assessment test to ensure correct level placement.

Note: an inability to answer any questions will not exclude an applicant from the programme. It will show that the applicant should be enrolled in level 1.

Special Entry Requirements:

In addition to meeting admission requirements, applicants must meet the following requirements to gain entry to this programme:

  • Has completed a minimum of NZQA Level 1 Te Reo Māori qualification; or
  • Able to successfully complete a Te Reo Māori competency assessment as undertaken by Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi; and
  • May be required to attend an interview, or if one lives at some distance from Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi campuses, complete a telephone interview

Description:

Mā tēnei pepa ka kawe i ngā kupu Māori, i ngā hanganga wetereo hoki ki tōna taumata ā-tumu mā roto atu i ngā mātāpono hei tohu i te mana tangata. Kua horopakia ēnei whakatairanga i ōna mōhiotanga o ōna tātai whakapapa ki tōna whānau. Ki te mōhio ngā tauira ki ēnei tātai whakapapa, ka pakari ake tōna huarahi akoako. Ko ngā kaupapa ako o tēnei kōwae ako ko:

  • Ngā oro o te reo Māori.

  • ā oro o te reo Māori.
  • Te rere o te reo taumata-ā-tumu.
  • Te mita o te reo.
  • Ngā tikanga o te reo.
  • Ngā whakanakotanga o te reo (mā te reo o ia rā).
  • Te reo o ia rā (kupu tohutohu, 'kua, ka, kei te, i').
  • Ngā karakia o te taumata-ā-tumu.
  • Ngā waiata o te taumata-ā-tumu.

Description:

Mā tēnei pepa ka kawe i te reo ki tōna taumata ā-tumu, ki te whakatutuki i ētahi mahi i ngā horopaki kua āta tohua mā roto atu i ngā mātāpono hei tohu i te mana ao tūroa.Kua horopakia ngā whakaaro o te ao kikokiko ki ngā mahi o ia rā, o ia rā ki roto i te whānau, te mahi/kura, me te hapori anō hoki.  E whai ake nei ko ngā kaupapa ako o tēnei kōwae ako:

  • Ngā oro o te reo Māori.
  • Te rere o te reo tūāpapa.
  • Te mita o te reo.
  • Ngā tikanga o te reo.
  • Ngā tohutohu o te horopaki (whānau, mahi/kura, hapori).
  • Ngā kupu o te horopaki (whānau, mahi/kura, hapori).
  • Ngā rerenga o ia rā o ngā horopaki (whānau, mahi/kura, hapori).
