Awhi Tauira Student Support

The Awhi Tauira Student Support team can guide and advise you in the following areas:

  • Academic support
  • Disability support
  • Pastoral care

A range of academic learning and development resources are available from your Awhi Tauira Student Support. This includes: study guidelines, websites, workshops, one-on-one sessions, study groups, on-line, email support, help with your assignments and advice on academic regulations.

Your ability to study may be affected by study workloads, academic skills, personal issues, family, cultural commitments or disability. Awhi Tauira Student Support is available to discuss these barriers and provide you with practical and personal solutions to allow you to complete your studies and get better grades.

Kanohi-ki-te-kanohi (face-to-face) and eWānanga (online) support programmes are available to suit all needs. One of the immediate benefits to students is the whanaungatanga (sense of belonging) that is always present at Awhi Tauira.

Awhi Tauira staff offer a variety of learning environments:

  • ‘Drop in’ sessions for student kaupapa
  • eWānanga online student support
  • Awhi Tauira Facebook for online group work
  • Workshops with a target audience
  • Group tutorials
  • Seminars including oral presentations and visual presentations
  • Individual pastoral care
  • Mentoring – promoting the concept of total support, reassurance encouragement and integrity
  • Support for students with disabilities
  • Mātauranga Māori including support for marae-based distance learners
  • Noho marae support
  • Cultural support for all students including waiata training
  • Consistent support across all campuses and sites
  • Awhi Tauira Academic Computer Café (Whakatāne)
