Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi has established a number of important relationships that enable us to better support the needs of Māori students and communities nationally. These relationships are with the following organisations:
Te Tauihu o Ngā Wānanga
Awanuiārangi is one of three wānanga in New Zealand. Awanuiārangi, Te Wānanga o Aotearoa and Te Wānanga o Raukawa have formed Te Tauihu o Ngā Wānanga to represent the sector, to ensure collaboration and co-ordination, and to maintain the focus on Māori students as the main kaupapa.
Bay of Plenty Tertiary Partnership
Bay of Plenty Polytechnic, the University of Waikato, and Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi make up the Bay of Plenty Tertiary Partnership. Working with regional groups such as Priority One and SmartGrowth, the Partnership was developed to enhance tertiary education offerings to the Bay of Plenty region. While the three institutions remain separate, they look for opportunities to work together to provide pathways to higher education, increase the range of programmes, certificates, diplomas and degrees offered in the area, and combine on research with particular relevance to the region.
Currently, the Partnership is working toward the development of a tertiary campus in the Tauranga CBD. Shared by all the partner institutions, it will provide a university campus experience for students and a nationally and internationally recognised Bay of Plenty hub for teaching, learning and research.
Awanuiārangi established a formal relationship with NorthTec in 2009 and began delivering graduate and undergraduate programmes at NorthTec’s Whangarei campus in 2010. The two institutions are exploring the potential to deliver other programmes in Whangarei and other sites in Te Tai Tokerau.
