The core business of Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi is first-class teaching informed by quality research. But that is only the start. At the true heart of our whare wānanga is our desire to make a genuine and life-long difference for our students and the communities they come from.
Changing lives is a tall order. We are proud of our talented general and academic staff, and their collective commitment to this kaupapa.
Led by the highest number of Māori PhD-qualified academics of any tertiary institution in the world, our staff work to provide teaching and supervision of the highest standard, and their skill and credentials are backed by a genuine dedication to their students.
How do we know this? Because our students tell us so. Our students consistently highlight the level of encouragement and support from supervisors, lecturers and other staff. It is, students tell us, a major reason for their success in achieving their academic goals.
Our aim is to develop Awanuiārangi as an outstanding site for Māori scholarship, and that starts with our staff. Targeted professional development and skills development programmes are priorities for our organisation, and a major focus is on providing top-level support for our academics and our research teams.
Our teachers and researchers have strong connections with their industries and professional organisations, which keeps them at the forefront of developments within their fields of interest.
They are supported by an Adjunct Faculty of experts and scholars. Our Adjunct Professors are outstanding individuals recognised nationally and internationally for their high achievements and specialist knowledge. The faculty includes a Māori Doctoral pool linked to our Graduate School to provide mentoring, supervision and community research.
