About Me:
Te Mauri was raised within the community of Rūātoki. He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree and a Post Graduate Diploma of Māori Resource Development from Massey University. He has previously held roles within the Environmental Studies Department and Student Support Unit at Awanuiārangi.
My current role within the School of Iwi Development is that of regional monitor. This position primarily involves monitoring two of our programmes; Community Education and Te Pouhono. These programmes are run through marae and I work with the regional co-ordinators and marae co-ordinator to ensure the programmes are run appropriately.
These programmes provide an opportunity to strengthen and capacity build our marae. It also allows our people, particularly those in rural communities, to participate in the academic sector by offering programmes from which these students can bridge into higher level programmes or career path ways.
In 2010 I have also taken on a kaiako role within the Bachelor of Mātauranga Māori programme run out of the School of Iwi Development. Teaching MAO 249 - Ngā Roimata elective paper within the first semester and possibly another in the second semester.
Teaching Responsibilities:
- MAO 249 Ngā Roimata - This paper covers detailed study of the Māori view of all water, and the marine and river environment. It also deals with the principles of navigation using traditional Māori and Polynesian techniques, and the main technologies used for harvesting of marine and freshwater species and resources.
