About Me

I was born in Whakatane, raised in Kawerau and educated in a host of schools beginning in Nuhaka, Whakatane, Kawerau and finally finishing my seventh form year in Auckland. I then enrolled in Bachelor studies at the University of Auckland and have continued my studies to present day as a Doctoral student at Awanuiarangi. I began my professional career as a New Entrant teacher in South Auckland and whilst teaching, trained as a Reading Recovery Teacher, specialising in assisting children with reading and writing challenges. I was fortunate to then train as a Reading Recovery Tutor, eventually holding an office in beautiful Southland, training visiting and supporting teachers and schools with their Reading Recovery Programmes. This then assisted me in transitioning into Initial Teacher Education, lecturing on the Primary Curriculum, Treaty of Waitangi and Maori Pedagogy.

Teaching Responsibilities

I am planning to guest lecture on selected papers across the institution.

Research Interests

My research interests lie in the area of student learning and motivation to learn. My PhD topic examines the role of wairua and motivation to learn.
