Awhi Tauira Student Support’ is targeted support for all students and programmes offered at the Wananga. Both face-to-face and ‘online’ support programmes are available to suit the needs of the student.
One of the features for Māori students is the level of Whanaungatanga that is always present. Support includes academic support as well as support for personal issues that may impact on the learner’s ability to complete their study.
Awhi Tauira Student Support staff offer a variety of learning environments:
- Awhi Tauira Internet Café
- Individual student face-to-face consultation
‘Drop in’ sessions for student kaupapa
- Individual Pastoral Care
- eWānanga on line student support (every Wednesday evening as well as on request)
- Consistent services across all campuses
- Workshops with a target audience
- Group tutorials
- Seminars including oral presentations and visual presentations
- Support for students with disabilities
- Mātauranga Māori support
- Noho Marae support
- Cultural support ie Waiata training
- Regional support by training the tutors and providing appropriate resource packages
Awhi Tauira Student Support has a full-time permanent staff of three. Provision has been made to add to our team by employing a Student Support Adviser in Tamaki.
